Help/FAQ
Why is the Coroner's Office called?
The Coroner is responsible for investigating all deaths that occur suddenly, any acts of a violent nature, such as homicide, suicide, accident, any death occurring within 24 hours of admission to any health care facility, any person incarcerated, the death of a healthy child, or persons without a personal physician, and any death of a contagious disease constituting a public hazard.

The Coroner will determine if the death will be investigated or if the death certificate can be routinely signed by the attending physician. Not all deaths reported to the Coroner’s office are accepted as cases.
